Armagh Planetarium 2006 - 2008- To design and build a high-class exhibition that would complement the unique qualities of the Armagh Planetarium.
- The theme was the integration of astronomy with South Armagh's local religion and famous cathedrals.
- The content needed to fill six separate areas within the Planetarium and present a comprehensive picture of space exploration in all its many facets.
The Design:
- Cook & Associates identified from the outset that the layout and flow around the facility was the key to the design.
- The design involves a revolutionary approach that fulfils the challenging brief of combining the themes of astronomy and religion.
- Visitors are invited to view back-lit space images inset into simulated cathedral windows, and to walk over under-lit floors that depict a map of the South Armagh area viewed from space.
"As the premier astronomy and space science centre in Ireland and a world leader in astronomy education, Armagh Planetarium demands the very highest quality of resources and displays. Our exhibitions must be flexible enough for us to create new learning pathways, whilst utilising the latest display and creative technology to convey the excitement and wonder of astronomy and space to all ages and abilities. It is for this reason, we are delighted to work with the extremely professional team at Cook & Associates to create our new scientific journeys of discovery and develop our resources and experiences with a knowledgeable and very creative and friendly team."
